Data We Collect

  • Name and Email Address: Collected upon signup and used to create and maintain your account.
  • Posts and Comments: All user-generated content (UGC) that you create and share within Zen Social.
  • Reports: When you report something, we store what you reported, the reason you chose and any note you added. Reports about content you shared are stored the same way. See "Reports and moderation" below.
We do not collect or track any additional personal data beyond what is required for essential functionality. No third-party tracking or data harvesting is utilized.

How We Use Your Data

Your privacy is important to us. We use your data only for the purposes outlined below.
  • Account Management: To create, maintain, and support your user account.
  • Platform Functionality: To display your posts and comments for other users within the platform.
  • Communication: To send you important updates about Zen Social and respond to your inquiries.
  • Safety and Moderation: To review reported content and act on reports. See "Reports and moderation" below.
We will never sell your personal information to third parties or use it for purposes not explicitly stated in this policy.

Data Storage and Security

All user data is stored on servers located in the European Union. We employ industry-standard security measures and encrypt sensitive data at rest when required for core functionality.

Cookies

Zen Social uses only a session cookie for maintaining your login state. No tracking or advertising cookies are employed.

Reports and moderation

When you report a post, comment, event or message, we store who reported it, what was reported, the reason you chose and any note you added. A circle's administrators review reports about content in their circle. Zen Social support reviews a report when the person reporting sends it straight to us, when the circle's administrators have not handled it within 7 days, and always for reports about direct messages. To decide, support sees the reported content and what is needed to understand it — for a message, the messages around it that the person reporting could see. We do this because we have a legitimate interest in keeping Zen Social safe (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) and because, as a hosting service, we have obligations under the EU Digital Services Act (GDPR Art. 6(1)(c)). If we remove something you shared, we tell you why and how to object. Reports are kept for 12 months after they are decided, then deleted.

Your Rights

  • Access and Rectification: You can request access to your data or request corrections at any time.
  • Deletion (Right to be Forgotten): You may request the deletion of your personal data by contacting support or canceling your account.
  • Data Portability: We will provide your data in a portable format upon request where feasible.

Data Retention

We retain your name and email until you delete your account. Posts and comments remain unless you request their removal or delete your account. Reports are kept for 12 months after they are decided, then deleted.

Alignment with the Sustainable Manifesto

Zen Social upholds the guidelines of the Sustainable Manifesto, prioritizing minimal data collection, privacy, and respect for all users.

Changes to This Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make any significant changes, we will notify you via email or through the Service.
